The table tennis rubbers made of German tensor technology have become popular recently. Along it’s popularity came a serious concern of its durability. The appetite for more hours of play came from it’s high price. The XIOM Omega III costs $50 in the United States. Who does not want to use the rubber for little more hours for the extra buck they pay?

The tensor rubbers like XIOM Omega III, XIOM Omega II are highly processed rubbers. The top sheets have very high tension. Without proper care, these rubbers can be damaged easily. Look at the video at 1:30 minute. It talks about the cracks on the edge of the rubber.

How long these tensor rubbers can be used? That is an interesting question, and the players make a conclusive remark that it can’t be more than a week or two. This is a very wrong conclusion. Won’t you be surprised if I say players have used XIOM ZETA for 6 months - two to three times 3 hours a week.

To lengthen the life of any XIOM rubbers, there are some precautions you have to make as a player.

1. Use only water based glue with XIOM rubbers. Use XIOM I-BOND. Don’t use any glue with VOC content including Elmer’s Rubbers Cement.

2. Use wider side tape of 10 or 12 mm to cover the blade and the rubber exposure.

3. Take proper care when you re-glue. The rubber can change its elasticity if it is stretched while removing.

4. Use rubber protector sheet on the rubber when not in use. Keep the paddle in a racket case after the club play.

5. Use water based cleaner to clean the rubber surface like XIOM I-CLEAN.
