I was back at the Dallas Table Tennis club at 10:00 AM today. The club is open, but the tournament they have planned to have between the Houston and Dallas was postponed to today afternoon.

I’m still confused at her name. I was told her name is Sumi Yee. She is 2050 rated USATT player. She has come to the US few months back. I’m talking about the defender I’ve met at the club yesterday.

It was fun spending some time with Sumi and other players at the club. Sumi wanted to watch me play, and set me up with a good offensive player. About her equipments, she has used TSP Curl rubbers before, but he uses Butterfly Feint Long with sponge.

I was really embarrassed when she started discussing my defensive cut stokes with her fellow Koreans. Later she translated it for me. She has felt my chop strokes have power and more spin.

Her’s was the next turn. Sumi is a consistent and persistent chopper from both the wings. She has a game similar to the Korean choppers Kim and Park.

Here are some differences in our styles:

She:

1. Consistent and persistent chopper - rally goes long.

2. Vary the spin to trouble the opponent.

3. Gracious chopping and vary the spin.

4. Smash while attacking.

Me:

1. Try to finish the point fast.

2. Generate more under spin while cutting.

3. Power chop to arrest the offense.

4. Loop while attacking.

I think these are also some primary differences you can see in defenders among men and women. The women defenders graciously chop to trouble their opponents while the men can take the offense to extreme.
